Adjustments

So I seem to be getting over jetlag. When I first arrived in Daegu I was cabbed along by Yoon-hun of the reinforcement team to my crazy little "love motel". Gratefully I heard no one having sex in any rooms beside me the first night I was there. Took me a while but eventually I caught up on some sleep until about 9pm and then went out to meet Nick for supper at around 11pm. We went back to my motel and talked for a bit. I then proceeded to take a much needed Gravol-induced sleep until about 10am. This means that I'm mostly on par with Korean time now so my jetlag isn't too bad. I still feel a little tired but not as much as I should be I'll bet.

Today was also my first day of observing/training. Everyone that I'm working with here (and the guy I'm replacing) seem really cool and helpful. The atmosphere seems pretty laid back too, which is nice. I'm basically just figuring out what is expected of me and how I will go about doing all of this stuff on my own. I'm feeling pretty confident and don't think I'll have too much trouble finding my own niche.

The language barrier posed a pretty funny problem for me today too. This morning I took a walk to Dunkin Donuts and got a coffee and breakfast sandwich. It was number 5 on the menu and ironically (because I know things that are much harder than this) I haven't done my numbers yet so I had to rely on hand signals. It was worse when she was asking me if I wanted to eat in or take it with me. I chose the one that involved collapsiong my hands inwards. Other than that, it's been fairly easy to get around.

They told me I would be in my motel for three days or so. Guess what? Surprise, when I was getting picked up to go to work today they told me I was moving to a temporary apartment. I've been inside of it for less than 40 seconds today and it caused me to be slightly late for training which turned out to be no big deal since it wasn't my fault.

All in all, observing is helpful and it seems like I will do fine in the job. It's just a matter of getting used to things. I still don't have consistent internet access so don't expect a lot of or even frequent updates for a while. Oh yeah, I'll probably be out of my temporary apartment by the end of the week and into my new one at its still unknown location. Next on the agenda is food, then sleep and some organization.
